Free animated SVG icons

Icons that move on their own: spinners, a beating heart, a ringing bell and more. Recolour, resize and download as animated SVG, free.

ICON OOP includes a small set of animated SVG icons: icons that move on their own, like a spinning loader, a beating heart or a ringing bell. You can recolour and resize each one, then download it as an animated SVG. They are free and open-source.

What an animated icon is

A normal icon is a still image. An animated icon has motion built into the file itself. Our animated icons use SVG animation, which means the movement is part of the SVG and runs on its own with no extra code, no JavaScript and no video file. Drop the SVG onto a web page and it simply moves.

The animated icons available

The set is intentionally small and practical, covering the motions people use most often:

  • Loading spinner and a spinning gear for progress and processing states.
  • Beating heart and a twinkling star for likes, favourites and ratings.
  • Ringing bell and a new mail icon for notifications.
  • Animated tick for success and confirmation.
  • Bouncing arrow and a pulsing dot for scroll hints and live status.
  • Wifi signal, a downloading arrow and a ticking clock.

How to download an animated icon

  1. Open the tool and click the Animated tab.
  2. Click an icon to open it. Set the colour and size if you want.
  3. Download the SVG. The animation travels inside the file, so it moves wherever you use it.

One thing to know: animation only works in formats that support it. An SVG download keeps the motion. A PNG download is a still image, because PNG cannot hold animation. For an animated icon, choose the SVG.

Where to use animated icons

A little motion draws the eye. Animated icons work well for loading states, notification bells, success messages, and subtle hints like a bouncing “scroll down” arrow. Used sparingly they make an interface feel responsive. Used everywhere they become noise, so a few, placed with intent, is the right approach.

Free and open

The animated icons in ICON OOP are original works released under the MIT licence, so they are free to use, including in commercial projects, with no attribution required. See the licensing guide for the full picture.
